About

Unity in Difference explores questions of meaning, value, and the place of consciousness in the world we live in.

Our modern culture largely assumes that human beings are the unintentional by-product of impersonal physical processes. At the same time, we experience ourselves as conscious, volitional, and oriented toward meaning and value. This creates a dissonance between our lived experience and the culturally dominant naturalist worldview.

This project examines the reasons for that dissonance and considers an alternative view that can situate value and meaning in the structure of the world.

The work is primarily influenced by the Gaudiya Vedanta tradition as articulated by Jiva Goswami, and develops a personalist ontology using contemporary conceptual language.

The framework is intended to be conceptually transposable. By outlining the commitments at the level of metaphysical structure rather than cultural norms, it hopes to facilitate engagement with readers from any metaphysical or religious background. It aims to provide them with insights that can enrich their own world view.

Just as physics maps the objective architecture of the physical world, this framework aims to provide an objective description of the architecture of the personal dimensions of reality. The framework outlines a personal and relational view of the ultimate reality. Love is more than an emotion – it’s an existential orientation.

If you are interested in the nature of consciousness, and the possibility that value, meaning, and love can be grounded in the structure of the world, you will find resources here that take those questions seriously.

The work presented here is articulated from within the Gaudiya Vedanta tradition but doesn’t claim authority or formal representation of any institution or lineage. The author writes independently and without formal affiliation, preferring that the philosophy and insights be judged on their own merits.
